Although Mexico City is not immediately known as a tourist hotspot, this city is great to explore! Especially in terms of food! We started our trip here and stayed in the Roma district. Together with the Condesa district this is the most trendy part of Mexico City and, if you ask us, the perfect place to enjoy the Mexican cuisine in different ways. Our tips for breakfast, coffee & dinner.
Panaderia Rosetta
Panaderia Rosetta (@panaderiarosetta) is the best spot for breakfast in Mexico City! This place is also a bakery and always super busy, but rightfully so. The bread and puff pastries are very good and the coffee is to die for. Definitely try out the sandwich with burned eggplant! They also have a restaurant, check their page on instagram @restauranterosetta.
Chiquitito Café
Small but mighty, @chiquititocafe is known for serving high-quality coffee made with locally sourced beans and expertly prepared espresso drinks and pour-overs. Supporting community and quality, this welcoming place is a great go to! Chiquitito has multiple locations across Mexico City.
Kahwen Coffee
The neighborhood Coyoacan is where we had one the best flat white’s during our stay in Mexico City – at @kahwen.coffee, the barista takes care of every cup with precision and personality. It was fascinating to watch him make the coffee like it was a piece of art, with so much patience and precision. A relaxed a café and absolute coffee gem in a quiet side street.
Bólido Café
Another standout coffee stop in Coyoacán, the same cool neighbourhood where we loved Kahwen Coffee. A short stroll from the main plazas and artisan markets, you’ll find @bolidocafe. A modest en tiny café, but you can feel it’s a favourite among locals. Warm, minimalist and inviting – with a clean, modern interior and super friendly barista team.
Green Rhino
An artisan bakery and café in Rome Norte, founded by a British baker. @greenrhino_mx is his first project outside of Europe and it’s definitely one of the city’s most talked-about spots for creative, high-quality bread and pastries. They focus on sourdough and artisanal baking, and you can see the bakers at work through the open kitchen (love it!). The philosophy is all about using Mexican ingredients – and we absolutely loved our incredible flaky pastry with black sesame and orange. A must try!
Quiasmo
Located in Condesa, @quiasmo.coffeebar is pretty new. They open early (6:30 am), which makes it a rare morning coffee gem in the city. Relaxed, not pretentious and also a good place to get some work done. Or go for a take away coffee and wander around Condesa. Tip: the café de olla latte (a Mexican-inspired spiced coffee).
Quentin Café
Quentin Café (@quentincafemx) is in a chic neighborhood on Amsterdam street (how nice). Delicious coffee and pastries on a cozy street. While you’re here, visit Parque México right away! This clean and beautiful park with lounge chairs and soothing music is the most luxurious public park we’ve ever been to.
At BOU
At BOU (@bou_mx_) you are in the right place for a moment of peace on the sunny terrace with great coffee in cute cups. From early in the morning until the afternoon, you can enjoy all kinds of tasteful dishes like pancakes, salads, taco’s and good pastries!

Baldio
If we would recommend one restaurant that you shouldn’t miss, it’s definitely @baldio.mx. This incredibly delicious kitchen is also known as ’the restaurant without a bin’, trying to use every bit of their ingredients. They even received a green Michelin star for doing so, and we admire them for it. The dishes are pure, full of veggies and rich in flavour. Their corn focaccia is incredible, and every dish has a sauce, salsa or pickled someting that will stay with you. A must go!
Axolao
A place like no other, @axolao.mx: where Peru and Mexico come together. Ceviche with Mexican chiles, tostadas with leche de tigre.. corn, chili & citrus as a shared foundation. Their menu now features the most popular dishes of the past two years. Our absolute favourite was the dessert, a delicacy made from milk and merengue with hints of pan de muerto.
Imbiss
This restaurant is all about seasonal ingredients and deep flavours. @imbissmx is playful, but doesn’t try too hard. It’s just a really cool place! Fell in love with their beetroot butter, delicious bread and ‘masabacha’ – kind of like hummus, but made from beans. They also serve several wines here (which is still quite unique in Mexico City), also by glass.
Pujol
If you are looking for somewhere really special to have dinner, you should visit @restaurantepujol. This amazing restaurant (also known from the Chef’s Table series, season 2, episode 4) brings the real Mexican streetfood flavours to fine dining level. The ‘Mole Madre’, a mole fermented for 2.654 (!) days and containing a hundred ingredients, is one of their signature dishes. Not cheap, but a lifetime experience if you ask us. Be sure to make a reservation in advance.
La Pitahaya
Vegan time! If you are craving for true Mexican food, La Pitahaya Vegana (@lapitahayavegana) sells vegan tacos! Super delicious and in cute pink tortillas. If you’re looking for more vegan tacos, visit Gracias Madre Taquería Vegana (@graciasmadretaqueriavegana). This place specializes in making the vegan version of the Mexican classics.

Tlecan
In the top 50 best bars, but in our opinion a bit controversial. @tlecan is not quite a usual high end cocktail bar where you can have a delicate cocktail, but a busy and vibrant place where people also stand and dance! If this Mexico vibe is your cup of tea, then Tlecan mezcaleria is perfect to sip a good (mezcal) cocktail or 2 (or 3..).
Joe Gelato
Joe Gelato (@joegelatooficial) makes the most unusual and amazing flavors of ice cream you’ve ever tasted. Handcrafted gelato with a local touch, like ice cream with olive oil, black garlic, mezcal, corn, herbs, seasonal fruits.. they change flavours with teh seasons, so there’s always something new and fun to try.
Maison Artemisia
Maison Artemisia (@maisonartemisiamx) is a legendary, intimate cocktail bar tucked away in beautiful Roma Norte. Founded by French and Mexican friends who wanted to bring a a timesless drinking experience to the city! The bar is famous for their absinthe and creative signature cocktails and we absolutely loved the vibe (and music)!
