Our little road trip through Portugal this September also led us to Porto! For the famous port – ofcourse – but this town has so much more to offer! We will share our experiences and tips with you in three categories. First up; lunch, coffee & bakeries. Then on to the most delicious and best restaurants in Porto and ending with our day trip through the amazing Douro Valley.
Epoca
@epocaporto; by far the number one on this list! Only open from 12h till 15h during weekdays (no reservations) and a erving a ‘simple’ small lunch menu. Their food is vegetarian and BRILLIANT! And for such a reasonable price. Check the most recent menu om their page.
Hakko
@hakko_house_ has a separate breakfast and lunch menu and is soooo delicious. Their toasts are made with in-house-baked sourdough and super lavish. Also a top spot for specialty coffee!
Farina
@farina_pt is a cool bakery with rustic, bold bread and pastry. We’ve got ourselves the best Italian focaccia of Porto with olives, herbs and tomatoes.
Calma
You should visit @calma_coffee_room if only for the building! Right in this nostalgic and cultural establisment they serve amazing coffee! Definitely try their batch brew.
Manna
@mannaporto stands for organic, local & conscious food. We’ve only had coffee here, but the breakfast and lunch menu also looks very tempting!
SO Coffeeroasters
@socoffeeroasters has two locations in Porto and real good coffee. They roast the beans themselves and also sell them to other speciality coffee spots in Porto and Portugal in general.
My green pastry
@mygreenpastry is a plant-based bakery since 2020 and always makes the pretty pies and pastries fresh every morning. We’ve tried out their signature flan cake, yummmm!
Combi
@combi_coffee; combine this coffee spot with a walk on the bridge #ponteinfantedomhenrique, with beautiful views on the #ponteluis!

Genuino
@genuino.porto is the one that surely left a long lasting impression! It’s a modern tapas bar with options for everyone; vegetarian, fish, meat, vegan, everything! The menu changes frequently and they also have natural wines. We highly recommend this restaurant!
Coupage 51
@coupage51 is a more traditional tapas bar with indulging food for a good price. Here you’ll find for example delicious croquettes, fried aubergine and oven baked camembert. We had a very good bottle of Portugese #vinoverde with it!
Esquina do Avesso
@esquinadoavesso is located outside Porto, in Leça da Palmeira, but it’s definitely worth the drive! We found the cuisine to be marked by strong, bold flavours. Our fave; the ‘batata’ with hollandaise and fennel. In this area you’ll find more fine dining restaurants (like @favatonkapt) because in summer it’s a populair beach destination for (more wealthy) locals.
Okra
Fancy a good pizza in Porto? We loved @okrapizza! This Italian restaurant welcomes all kinds of guests, we loved the variety of the people here. Okra is also famous for their starters and the price/quality ratio is totally on point.
Gharb
Can’t share a list without a proper Middle Eastern restaurant. Even Porto has one; @gharbporto opened up this year! Perfect labneh, fresh bread and home made spicy lemonades; we’re fan! It’s centrally located and also a perfect place to have a break during daytime (and sit in the sun with wine).
Venn Canteen
The motto of @venncanteen is ‘no compromise flavour packed vegan cooking’! This vegan restaurant (still a little unique in Porto!) is open for lunch (with a smaller menu) and dinner. We combined it with a visit to the beautiful #chapelofsouls.
