Food tips Lisbon
Lisbon definitely stole our heart. The city is vibrant but cozy, culinairy but accessible, trendy but authentic. We felt at home right away and so did our culinary heart. Ed dived into all the good food this city has to offer and it lead to one of our best articles ever! Modern wine bars, coffee and breakfast in Lisbon, dining experiences and other creative food concepts – this is the list you need.
Lisbon is full of nice cozy places to have good wine combined with amazing food, Portuguese cheeses and other appetizers. Ed found us 4 amazing, modern ones. All very different, all very worth visiting!
⋆ @bombombomlisboa: a natural wine bar with a very, very good kitchen! With shared dining dishes on a chalkboard, live music regularly and (Portuguese) natural wines, this place is unique in Lisbon.
⋆ @bythewinelisboa has a typical wine bar atmosphere and a long bar to sit. They offer (affordable) wines by the glass and nice cheeses and other small bites to go with them. My personal favorite; the vinho verde combined with the semi-cured soft cheese!
⋆ @senhor.uva is all about sustainable dining, botanical food and real wines. This place shows true passion for wines and therefore changes the wine menu often. The food is REALLY good and people know; it’s quite busy so we really recommend you to make a reservation.
⋆ @oficiolisboa is a restaurant located in the heart of Lisbon. Because of the great attention to wine with matching dishes, this place is ideal to spend the afternoon or evening. And whatever you do; try @hugo_candeias ‘s cheesecake!
We are often asked what our favourites in a city would be if we could only pick a few. We thought it would be fun to highlight these few spots and share the ones we think you shouldn’t miss in Lisbon – no matter what. Useful, especially when you’re planning to visit Lisbon for a short period.
⋆ @auradim.sum – this place makes the best fresh dim sum we have ever had! In all kinds of ways – fried, steamed, boiled, deep fried.. amazing! From meat and fish to vegan, Aura is a restaurant for everyone. A very cosy place with super friendly staff.
⋆ @raminhos.desserts – an inspiring dessert restaurant where you can also order desserts a la carte! Ana Raminhos is a true artist – working with bold (also savoury) flavours and combinations, she’s making each dessert look like art. Good to know; on Saturday they open at 3 pm already! This is an experience we wish for everyone. Don’t miss it.
⋆@libertycafe.lisbon – we LOVE going for brunch, and Liberty truly is unlike anything else. Their pancakes, tostadas, other dishes and desserts are out of this world. Each with so much creativity and of such good quality! Tip of the day; treat yourself to a glass of their Portugese sparkling wine to go with your food. An amazing spot for lunch, brunch and breakfast in Lisbon!
⋆ @palaciodogrilo – Looking for an insane but super exciting and unique way of dining in Lisbon? We are still overwhelmed by our experience at Palacio do Grilo! In this mysterious castle people perform ‘living art’ while you enjoy shared dining dishes and wonder what’s coming next. The surroundings are a-ma-zing and the food is good (and for a very reasonable price!). What a way to start our visit to Lisbon. Come early to take beautiful pictures and don’t leave without dessert – definitely try the dark crème brulee!
⋆ @comoba_lisboa in the heart of the city is a popular place for coffee, lunch and breakfast in Lisbon and has a Scandinavian kind of vibe. Lots of healthy food like chia pudding and good salads! They do walk-ins only but we got a spot very quickly, a very good option for breakfast in Lisbon.
⋆ We’ve had the best coffee in Lisbon at @baobacafe.portugal and went back for it several times. This joint has their own farm in Brazil and also won the price of coffee of the year 2021 by @timeoutlisboa. Truly deserved!
⋆ @acento.coffee, in the North of Lisbon, works with local roasters (unique in Lisbon!) and serves verrryyy good matcha as well. The owner is super nice and takes time to explain about the coffee and their way of making it. Highly recommend it!
⋆ @cafe_monka became a favourite right away. The toasts they make here are SO good! From the bread (from their own bakery @monka_bakery) to the toppings; the quality and taste is amazing. They serve different specials every week and if you want to try their amazing pastry, be quick! The first time we went they were sold out, so we got back and got ourselves a savoury pastry with cheese and za’atar.
⋆ We went to @dobeco_padaria especially for their famous ‘tornado eggs’. This creamy omelette is served with chili oil on a fresh brioche bun. Their pastry is also to die for, just take a look on their page!
⋆ @cafe_dedes serves good comfort food in a healthy way. We’ve had one of the best Okonomiyaki ever and it was big enough to share together. Their shakshuka also looked really good.
⋆ @shakarcoffee is a great spot for breakfast in Lisbon to combine with a visit to the parc #parqueeduardovii. We also had a lovely breakfast here with Turkish eggs and a smoothiebowl. Their coffee is very good, so also perfect for a small stop!
⋆ @bunaportugal has great coffee and a great view! A little tip, from their terrace in a cozy street the famous tram #tram28lisbon drives by many times an hour. We actually enjoyed it more this way than being on the tram itself.

Just a 25-minute drive from central Lisbon, we found such a beautiful piece of Portugal by the beach! It is so amazing how a vibrant city and a tranquil beach are so close together. We totally fell in love with Irmão (@praia_irmao) and wanted to share it separately 🩶
This beach club has a Tulum kind of vibe and has a laidback but sexy atmosphere. And most important (and often not the case at these kind of beach clubs) – the food is very good! They specialise in pizzas from the wooden oven and they are just perfect.
Besides a nice day at the beach you should also keep an eye on their agenda. We went to a nice party by @deephousebible where even big artists like @satorimusica and @bedouin_official attended.
You can’t espace them in Lisbon and you don’t want to – pastéis de nata. We did our own tour around town and made up our own top five. Pick you choice and try them out!
1. We can’t deny it and many people with us; the original @pasteisbelem are the absolute best! They are the only one who may use the name ‘Pastel de Belém’ and are using a secret recipe that’s around for centuries. Perfect puff pastry, medium sweet and super crunchy. Price € 1,30
2. Our second fave is the pastel de nata from @fabricadanata. Here’s the biggest chance you’ll get them warm and fresh from the oven. Not to sweet and crunchy pastry. Price € 1,20
3. @manteigaria.oficial is a quite famous one. They make them a little more sweet than others (in our opinion), two locations in Lisbon. Delicious! Price € 1,30
4. The main thing we loved from the pastel de nata from @castropasteisdenata was the very good and soft curd. Also a little sweeter than the first two. Price € 1,50
5. @vegannata.pt had the guts to develop a vegan pastel de nata. However we have to admit that the taste is less than the original one and the dough somewhat different, we really appreciated this vegan version. Price € 1,20
A nice cocktail or glass of wine while overlooking beautiful Lisbon? This city has lots of rooftop bars and we have selected 4 in different parts of Lisbon. Cheers!
⋆ @java_lisboa (Cais do Sodre): a Mediterranean rooftop with a round bar around the corner of the famous ‘pink street’, but not very touristic. Good wines and a nice vibe.
⋆ @goalisboa (Docas): a cozy garden with music and a green lane covered with beanbags. A plus for this bar; very reasonable prices. We’ve had a bottle of delicious Portugese vinho verde for around € 15. Also a club at night!
⋆ @lx.hostel (Alcântara): this rooftop bar on top of LX Hostel is located right beneath the the famous ‘Ponte 25 Abril’ and gives a wonderful sight on this bridge. In this creative district @lxfactory is a unique place to have a drink, shop and make good pictures.
⋆ @rooftopbarmundial: on top of a hotel and a bit more commercial, but if you’re looking for the best views of Lisbon, you can’t miss out on this one! With a 360° view this place is nice to watch the sunset and enjoy a glass of rosé.
