Breda is our hometown for part of the year, which makes this guide a little more personal to us. We have seen the city’s food scene grow over the years, with creative restaurants, Mediterranean flavours, specialty coffee and some lovely places for lunch. These are the Breda restaurants and cafés we keep coming back to and happily recommend.
Best Restaurants in Breda
ORA
ORA is a modern taverna with Mediterranean flavours and a strong Greek soul. Everything revolves around sharing, slowing down and enjoying good food and wine together. Think homemade pitas and dips, dishes from the grill and genuinely amazing desserts. The extensive wine list is another highlight, with plenty of Greek wines to discover. Refined yet accessible — exactly the kind of restaurant we love.
Bobbi’s Bar
Bobbi’s Bar is a stylish but approachable restaurant right in the centre of Breda. The menu works particularly well for sharing several dishes with friends, with plenty of vegetarian options too. Add good cocktails and a lively atmosphere and it is an easy choice when you want dinner to feel a little more festive without becoming overly formal.
Reparola
Reparola is all about fresh Italian pasta in a relaxed setting. The menu changes, but we still remember the beetroot pasta with figs and gorgonzola — rich, soft and full of flavour. Definitely save some room for dessert too; their semifreddo was another favourite. A lovely option when a comforting bowl of properly made pasta is exactly what you want.
Zuyd
Zuyd is our choice in Breda when the occasion calls for something more refined. The cooking takes inspiration from French cuisine while adding Asian influences, resulting in modern and surprising dishes. We have always been impressed by the combination of food, service and atmosphere here. A great address for a longer dinner or something to celebrate.
Luther
Luther combines a lively wine bar with a more intimate restaurant in the back, all hidden behind a beautiful façade on the Wilhelminastraat. The French-inspired kitchen works with seasonal ingredients, offering both à la carte dishes and a changing surprise menu with matching wines. We especially love the contrast between the buzzy front bar and the hidden green courtyard at the back — perfect for anything from a spontaneous glass of wine to a longer dinner.
De Jongens van Zand & Klei
De Jongens van Zand & Klei built an entire restaurant around one ingredient: the potato. It appears throughout the menu in creative forms, with their crunchy potato basket remaining one of our favourites. The dishes feel playful and distinctive without becoming overly complicated. Also a good option for lunch.
Veemarktplein
Veemarktplein is a relaxed wine-focused spot that works just as well for a few glasses and bites as it does for a full dinner. The wine selection is the real highlight, with plenty of wines by the glass and even a wine cellar where you can pick your own bottle. The menu consists of smaller fish, meat and vegetable dishes made for sharing, alongside oysters, cheeses and charcuterie. Add the lovely terrace in summer and cosy interior, and it is an easy place to spend an entire afternoon or evening.
Pazzi
Pazzi brings a little piece of Italy to the lively Van Coothplein. The pizzas are baked in a wood-fired oven brought over from Italy, using a distinctive dough and predominantly Italian ingredients, while antipasti are made for sharing before your pizza arrives. We love the warm, intimate atmosphere inside, which makes it feel just as inviting on a winter evening as on the terrace in summer. Simple Italian food, done with plenty of character.

Breakfast, Lunch & Coffee in Breda
Puick
Puick is a cosy city-centre spot with a menu inspired by flavours from the Middle East and Asia. The lunch dishes are colourful and full of flavour, with plenty of options to share. We especially like the surprise menu, which lets the kitchen put together a selection for the table. A lovely choice when you want something more interesting than a standard lunch.
Sip First
Sip First combines specialty coffee with one of the more creative lunch menus in Breda. The dishes change regularly, with plenty of colourful and vegetarian options alongside excellent coffee. We also never skip the homemade cakes in the display, which often use seasonal ingredients. One of those places that works equally well for coffee, breakfast or a proper lunch.
Clique
Clique is an easy-going place for brunch, lunch, aperitivo or a few bites in the centre of Breda. The menu ranges from comforting classics to more modern daytime dishes, so it works well with a mixed group. They have also put real thought into the wine selection, making it just as appealing later in the afternoon.
Chatwick Coffee
Chatwick is one of our favourite combinations in Breda: serious specialty coffee and really good pastry. The coffee is carefully made, while the pastry counter makes leaving with just a drink almost impossible. We particularly loved the latte macchiato served in a wine glass — still one of those little details we remember.
Kamu
Kamu combines a bike shop with a specialty coffee bar, giving it a relaxed and slightly alternative character. The coffee is consistently good and the spacious setting also makes it a useful place to sit down for a while. A local favourite and an easy coffee stop in the city.
Sowieso
Sowieso is especially cosy on colder days, when the warm interior makes it an easy place to hide away with a coffee. Alongside the usual coffee drinks, we particularly like their golden milk with turmeric, ginger and cinnamon. A relaxed little address for slowing down during a day in Breda.
