Ubud is special place in many ways. It is the cultural heart of Bali and is located in beautiful green nature. It is full of creative and spiritual people from all over the world, but shoplovers and foodies will also be spoiled in Ubud. In this article we’re taking you on our food journey through Ubud and would like to highlight the vegan food in Bali!
Casa Curandera
You have to make a little effort to find @casacuranderabali, but this is definitely the most special place for lunch! Right at the river, this place serves Colombian-Italian vegan dishes. This is what you call a hidden gem, it’s (amongst others) the best vegan food in Ubud!
Mudra
@mudracafe isn’t for a standard avo toast. They make the most colorful and original dishes! Get yourself one of their signature smoothiebowls or special drinks. Also loved the seaweed tacos!
Moksa
If you’re in for more vegan food in Ubud, a little outside of Ubud you can visit premaculture garden, holistic learning space and plant-based restaurant @moksaubud. We really recommend the chef’s selection, a variety of small dishes from the menu!
Juice Ja
@juicejaubud has without a doubt the best juices in Ubud! They also have a juice cleanse program and a nice deli shop where we bought lots of products for at home like peanut butter, spices, spirulina and coconut oil. All produced by the family behind Juice Ja Cafe!
Alchemy
We already became fans of @alchemybali in Uluwatu and luckily this unique raw restaurant also has a location in Ubud. It’s also community place where you can work remote and meet people.
Pison
@pison.ubud is a very modern place with great coffees in different varieties. Didn’t know avocado and coffee could be such a delicious combination!
Suka
@sukaespresso is a very popular place with amazing coffees. Good iced coffees!
Sunny coffee
@sunnycoffee_ubud: a little cute coffee heaven!

Akasha
@akasharestaurant (part of @newearthhaven) is located a little outside of Ubud but definitely worth the trip. The restaurant is breathtakingly beautiful with amazing architecture and has a unique free vibe. Some people are dancing, some are meditating and others are just chillin’ out. We absolutely loved the diversity here! Also a big plus; the menu is very vegan/vegetarian friendly.
Usada
@usadabali stands for culture, food and traditional healing arts. The kitchen is clean and accessible, the menu has a mix of traditional and new Balinese dishes. We loved their version of the Nasi Campur and the turmeric spice latte! We also attended a jamu workshop to make your own healing drinks (check the page for info, you have to sign up for it upfront).
Zest
@zestubud is a super cool place and fully plant-based. Here you’ll find vegan versions of popular dishes and very good cocktails. They also organize special events and gatherings like healings sessions and music performances.
The Elephant
@theelephantubud is a vegan/vegetarian restaurant with beautiful views and super friendly staff. They have both Balinese and European dishes but everything is equally good! We’ve had the best gnocchi with sage ever and an amazing chocolate mousse. A must go!

⋆ 𝙁𝙤𝙤𝙙 Coconut lovers alert! At @tukiescoconutshop they make eeeverything with coconut, from ice cream to cookies and even coconut butter!
⋆ 𝙁𝙤𝙤𝙙 One of the most special vegan food in Ubud: the @treenutcheezery! They make all kinds of different handcrafted vegan cheeses. They are very daring and venture into bold flavors such as goat cheese, camembert and brie. We got ours at @clubsehatbali, but there are more places in Ubud to buy it (check their page). The cheese is so good and the taste is super real! We enjoyed it with some fresh bread from @daily_baguette.
⋆ 𝙁𝙤𝙤𝙙 @usadabali is not only a restaurant, but also a place for learning about traditional Balinese food and culture. We attended a free ‘Jamu’ workshop on a Sunday, where we got to learn about healing drinks and how to make them ourselves. We had to sign up in advance and don’t know how long this workshop will continue, but we can imagine several such things being organized. Just stop by and ask!
⋆ 𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙮 We stayed at several places in Ubud, but @aryawellnessretreat really stands out. This hotel stands for relaxing and community. You get a free massage every day and they offer lots of social activities. We really loved the vibe around the pool! And for a very reasonable price. Update: it’s now women only.
⋆ 𝙃𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜 Ubud is the place to get yourself an authentic healing session. If you’re looking for something special, visit mr. Ketut at @omhamretreat (book at @bodyworksubud). This very experienced healer really surprised us with his massage techniques and nice energy. Don’t overthink, just book and go with the flow!

Do you want to make vegan food in Ubud yourself? Our search for a real, authentic and special coocking class in Ubud led us to @tresnabalicookingschool. Ubud offers lots of cooking classes, but if you’re looking for something truly unique and inspiring, please treat yourself to this experience! At Tresna, you pick your own ingredients in the wonderful garden and then cook (and enjoy!) 9 dishes that you can’t just find anywhere else. The class is for 8 cooks only, which makes for a very personal touch. And what’s more; they offer a VEGAN cooking class! How amazing is that?! Among other things, we made vegan saté, fresh peanut sauce, spiced tofu from the barbecue, black sticky rice, sambal, a pumpkin curry and even home made coconut milk! Sounds good right?
You’ll cook with the freshest ingredients you ever used and meanwhile enjoy the amazing stories of the owners of Tresna. You’ll have the privilige to get an inside look at the special story of this lovely power couple, who built Tresna from the ground up (literally!). These people really go the extra mile for you and even provide you with a list of good Balinese ingredients to buy and take home and all the recipes from the cooking class.

21 courses with paring drinks – divided into 3 beautiful, thought-out areas. It’s almost unbelievable that this fine dining dessert restaurant is located in Ubud, in the heart of Bali. The quality and the staff is unparalleled if you ask us! Former New York pastry chef @willtgoldfarb has truly set up a brilliant concept with @r4d_room4dessert.
The first seven courses are savory, which makes the seven sweet dessert courses after that even more delicious! The way from the first to the second space even leads you through the kitchen, where you can watch the staff (trained in Bali!) prepare the dishes. This way of dining stays away from a rigid setting and makes the evening so much fun. The end is absolutely fantastic – seven sweets by the campfire. Couldn’t be happier!
What makes your visit even more special is if you watch Netflix Chef’s Table pastry episode 4 upfront, in which chef @willtgoldfarb tells about his story about life as a pastry chef in New York and how he ended up in Bali. Another awesome tip; he also opened a new conceptstore with easy pastry nearby, The Powder Room.

Most people who visit Bali will know Mount Batur (in the Kintamani discrict) and will climb it in the morning like many others. You’ll be rewarded with an amazing view (when not clouded..)! We’ve visited Mount Batur from Ubud (approximately 1 hour drive), which was very doable. So much for the standard tourist information. But we are going to let you in on our little secret and make your experience even more incredible!
Most people head straight back to their hotel with a taxi (happy to sit down..), but wouldn’t you want to enjoy an incredible view of the mountain you just climbed while sipping a cup of coffee with great pastry?! I think @akasa_specialtycoffee might be the most beautiful and special place we ever had coffee. It’s just a 20 minute drive from Mount Batur and SO worth it! We think the pictures speak for themselves… so definitely combine your Mount Batur climb with a visit to this unbelievable place.
