Medellin really surprised us in terms of food. Although this city has a tough history and kind of raw image, it also quickly became a hotspot for food lovers, where new restaurants keep on opening. Medellin combines Colombian flavours with modern, international twists. Whether you’re craving a nourishing smoothiebowl, a cozy café experience, or an unforgettable dinner with a view, this city delivers. Here’s your ultimate guide to Medellin’s trendiest food spots right now.
Ginger Cocina
@ginger_cocina is fully plant-based and that’s pretty unique in Colombia. It’s run by lovely people that really know their way around veggies and creating flavourful yet healthy dishes. Their veggies are high quality and we loved how they got to mix Asian and Colombian flavours in every dish, whether you’re going for a salad, a bao bun, ramen or taco’s. You don’t have to be vegan to come and eat here, it’s just amazing!
Idilico
@idilico.restaurante really stands out in it’s quality and service! It’s located Medellin’s vibrant Manila neighbourhood and has a distinctive menu, perfect if you’re ready to try something new. It also has enough vegetarian and vegan options, so it’s suitable for everyone. We loved their fresh pasta and white fish tempura. Also definitely try their signature ‘corn tentacles’, with smoked pepper sauce.
Alambique
@alambiquemedellin is already quite popular and rightly so, it’s like stepping into a oasis in the middle of the city, with a remarkable and stylish interior. We went for lunch and had to wait for a spot, so we recommend to make a reservation upfront if you have little time. Their dishes are super indulging and quite big portions. We loved their salads and house cocktails!
Sambombi
@sambombi.bistro is a great spot if you want a fancy, romantic dinner. This restaurant has a tranquil ambiance and soft lighting. We started of with an outstanding glass of wine and then slowly ordered several dishes to share. It’s a restaurant that makes a kale salad into something you’ve never tasted before. We just kept on ordering new things to try out and everything was amazing. The menu changes frequently to highlight seasonal produce and introduce new culinary creations.
Dim Sum Recs
@dimsumrecs if you’re looking for a quick Asian bite! They have dumplings, baos, bites, noodle soups and everything is made freshly. It’s located in a cozy street and has a musical ambiance. We loved their shrimp baos and edamame! You can sit inside but they also have a nice terrace.
