We knew we had to visit the Basque country in northern Spain sometime. A place that is increasingly found among tourists, but especially for a real foodie, this region is an absolute must! For us also the reason to visit this region and share our experiences with you! So we started of in Bilbao, then drove on to San Sebastián, Pamplona and finished with lots of red wine in the Rioja region. In this article; our food hotspots Bilbao!
Bihotz cafe
Coffee & beers – Bihotz (@bihotzcafe) is a place that has everything for us! If you’re not in for an amazing cup of coffee but rather like a special beer, this is also the place to be (or just go for both!). The beers on tap are of a very high standard! Because the owner exudes passion in everything and chooses his beers and selection of coffee beans carefully. A top spot in the trendy La Vieja district, don’t miss it!
Basuki
Romantic dinner – In this chic neighbourhood nearby the Guggenheim museum you can have an amazing dinner at Basuki (@basuki_bilbao)! This is a super romantic restaurant with a very cool interior and a separate cocktail bar where they make great cocktails. All dishes are shared! Really liked the fact that all dishes are served separately, so you can really take time to enjoy each course.
Jazmino’s
Middle-Eastern cuisine – It is a trend; in Bilbao you can notice that Middle-Eastern food is becoming more popular, @jazmino.s was absolutely packed! The most amazing labneh and falafel with tahini sauce, perfectly fried pita’s, ‘smoked aubergine shoarma’ and fresh tabouleh, what more do you need? Their dishes have an intense taste, because they work with traditional coals. And the best part was that we were allowed to take a look into the kitchen ourselves!
