San Cristóbal de las Casas is a great little town in the middle of the mountains in the Chiapas region. This region is known for the highest quality cocoa and top coffee beans in the world. Reason enough for us to drive up here! From here you can also visit the cute little town @igchiapadecorzo, where you can take an amazing boat ride on the Río Grijalva and admire the gigantic cliffs. In this article: the best food in San Cristóbal de las Casas!
Cafeologia
@cafeologia.of has amazing coffee in kind of a Scandinavian, modern atmosphere. In the café they also sometimes give coffee workshops.
Frontera
We absolutely loved Frontera! @frontera_cafe has an idyllic garden where you can enjoy coffee and great breakfast or lunch.
Carajillo
The cafe @carajillocafe serves top quality coffee and sells coffee beans from various regions.
Xocolattes y Cafe
At Xocolattes y cafe (no instagram) you can taste milk with delicious cacao (not chocolate milk!) in different flavors. It’s something San Cristóbal is known for and you can’t leave this place without trying – it’s totally different from usual chocolate milk.
Frida’s Fries
If you’re looking for some fast food, we recommend Frida’s Fries. It’s funny to have true Belgian fries in a small Mexican town like San Cristóbal de las Casas, even served with the authentic Belgian ‘mayonaise’. Enjoy!
After our visit we took an adventurous but special route through the jungle to Palenque. No real food gems found here (it can’t always be top of the bill of course!), but here you can admire the beautiful ruins; an archaeological site of the Mayan people and one of the most important ones in Mexico.
