Oaxaca is the absolute best region for food in Mexico and furthermore, one of the best in the world. Here in the middle of Mexico all tastes come together, while Oaxaca, on the other hand, has its very own cuisine. You can try all colours of moles and enjoy great street food as well as fine dining! This city is worth a visit just for the food and the atmosphere, but also the colours, buildings, cosy squares and the incredibly friendly people will make you glad that you travelled all the way to this city. These are the best restaurants in Oaxaca!
Masea Trigo y Maíz
Masea Trigo y Maíz (@maseatrigoymaiz) has a bakery shop where everything is processed and made with all kinds of corn. In the ‘Atolería’ you can also try seven flavours of corn drinks.
Pan con Madre
Pan con Madre (@panconmadre) does everything with puff pastry, and they do it well! Don’t miss this one and get yourself something while strolling around Oaxaca.
Mezcalite Pop
Mezcalite Pop (@mezcalitepop) makes ice popsicles with fruit and mezcal, awesome!
Nois
Nois (@nois.pastisseria) makes little works of art that also taste fantastic. Our favourite; chocolate with amarena cherries. From their website we understand they also opened up a restaurant and bar!
Casa Crespo
Casa Crespo (@casacrespooficial) makes Oaxacan chocolate in various flavours. Get them at their own store in Oaxaca. Also a great gift idea for loved ones at home!

Boulenc
At Boulenc (@boulencpan) you can have the absolut best breakfast and lunch. The garden is a great place to sit and the bread is to die for! Also a must try; the hot chocolate with cinnamon. Be sure to make a reservation, this can be a busy place. But definitely don’t miss it, it’s one of the most special and best foodspots we had in Mexico.
Adama
We are so fan of the Middle Eastern kitchen that we couldn’t resist looking for it in Oaxaca. Adama (@adama.oax) has great labneh and falafel which you can enjoy in the atmospheric and hidden garden.

Los Danzantes
Los Danzantes (@danzantesoaxaca) is a mezcal brewery with an amazing restaurant in Oaxaca. Only knowing tequila in the Netherlands, this refined mezcal was truly a new experience! We also tried 5 kinds of delicious moles. This is definitely one of the best restaurants in Oaxaca. Fun to know: the waiter told us that the name ‘Los Danzantes’ comes from the ancient warriors from Mexico, who were believed to be dancing before they went to fight.
Levadura Olla
Levadura Olla (@levaduradeolla) is a restaurant that focuses on real authentic Oaxacan food and cooks that way too! The menu is divided into 4 themes (authentic, festive, ‘forgotten’ and new Oaxacan dishes). The tomatoes in this salad were really incredible!
Casa Oaxaca
Casa Oaxaca (@casaoaxacaelrestaurante) is a fine dining restaurant with an amazing rooftop. Salsas are made freshly at your table, which makes it a real experience. We especially recommend the dessert with mamey fruit.
Tllayudas La Chinita
Tllayudas la chinita (@tlayudaslachinita) is known from Netflix and makes giant tlayudas with Oaxacan cheese, cabbage, beans, chilli and guacamole. A must try!

Sidenote; to stay, we highly recommend hotel @hotelconcorazon.oaxaca. A super nice and cosy hotel that is also committed to the local population (since Oaxaca is one of the poorest states of Mexico).
